Projector Buying Tips

If you are browsing cheap projectors to set up a home entertainment system, then I have some suggestions for you that may help you find the best price. Since home projectors are still a bit high tech, they can be somewhat expensive. However if you know where to look, you can find cheap projectors all over the place.

First I will say a little about the standard price of most projectors. Any projector of decent quality for a home theater is almost always going to run you at least $500 new. However, the ones at that price are probably going to come with a pretty small resolution and contrast ratio. The saying 'you get what you pay for' definitely applies to buying cheap projectors. Keep in mind that just the projector's lamp alone will often cost around $300, so taking the time to find a good deal is pretty important.

The best place, by far, to check for cheap projectors is on eBay. You wont find too many good deals on new ones, however you can almost always find slightly used projectors at incredible prices. Just search 'home projector' or 'home theater' or something along those lines and you are bound to come up with some very low prices. You always need to be very careful when buying from a site like eBay though because of con artists. Make sure you see some good pictures of the item, and also only buy from someone with good feedback.

Another idea that most people never think of when looking for home theater projectors is to ask colleges/schools and companies in your area if they have any they'd be willing to sell. Most of the time you aren't going to find one that's ideal for home entertainment, however it never hurts to ask. Especially in this economy after many people have gotten laid off, there may be some fairly cheap projectors that companies are willing to sell you in your area.

You would be surprised by how many people end up buying a nice home entertainment projector and then not using it, or at least not for long. Put up a wanted ad online at Craigslist, or maybe at some places around your town saying that you are browsing for cheap projectors. You might be surprised when you get a few calls asking how much you would pay for their slightly used projector. Just remember to let them set the first price, since you don't want to throw a number out that they consider high.

With these tips in mind it shouldn't be too hard for you to find decent deals on any cheap projectors that you're interested in. Whatever you do, just do not buy a new projector in some retail store, or you will end up spending a lot more than you have to.
